Brandy Loves Alexander: Brandy Loves Alexander is a boy/girl Dreampop duo featuring Ryan and Kathryn of Relax to Paris. Brandy Loves Alexander: Named after the beverage that got John Lennon and Harry Nilsson kicked out of the Troubadour during the lost weekend. Its nickname is "The Milkshake Drink”. Kathryn and Ryan of Relax to Paris formed the project when their sound evolved so much, it couldn’t be categorized as Relax to Paris anymore..So they created this boy/girl dreampop duo that infuses melodic electro synth elements with haunting 60s pop. Mix cognac and crème at your own risk.
The Portraits: ROCK~POP~INDIE Taking cues from Led Zeppelin, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, Portraits strive to keep their music rockin´ and energetic. Formed in Pasadena, California by singer-songwriter Melissa Malavasi; This girl , originally from Costa Rica ,talked with drummer Carlos Gutierrez and they decided to start a music project. This band was originally formed last December of 2010,but their bad ass bass player, Morgan Ober, a girl from Idaho and Cameron Meadows, an amazing guitar player, became part of the band at the end of April 2011. “The music chemistry just felt right and we were ready to work and make some real music happen” says Melissa (a.k.a Mels),singer and keyboard player. Portraits sound is a combination of a Cactus, Rock & Roll and Electronic Vintage effects that create the mood, groove and energy of each song. Making each one something unique. The hooks and raw energy delivered by the band is something you will eat with every show. “We have similar musical tastes so we understand how the music comes and flows with each new song we write” says Mels. The guys met at music school in Pasadena,California and since then they´ve been on tour through Pasadena and Downtown L.A. Portraits, independently, are about to release their new album with producer Adam Fuller (Queens of the Stone Age, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Crosby Stills & Nash, Dixie Chix, Metallica, ZZ Top, Dennis Wilson, Tokio Hotel, Tegan & Sara, Eye Alaska, Runaways (Joan Jett & The Blackhearts). The group received overwhelmingly positive feedback throughout L.A. music scenes and they´re currently preparing to play in the Pasadena Music Festival June 18th & 19th . Portraits has received feedback from some amazing musicians that are currently on shows like “Dancing with the Stars”. Their 3 Ep songs will be available on itunes by the end of July, so make sure you get them! Come and see it for yourself. This band is currently playing every Thursday night at the coolest bar in town: 72 North, Pasadena Ca, found on South Fair Oaks. Don´t miss this opportunity to rock!
Wake The Radio: "Wake the Radio" with Johnny O'Neil on bass and vocals, Terry Harrison on the Drums and Jonny Hughes on the Guitar and lead vocals. "Wake The Radio" is a pop mix of my originals and a few of our favorite cuts we just love to play.
Jaz James: I grew up in Los Angeles surrounded by music and musicians in my family and lifestyle. I was brought up listening to the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. As a kid, I preferred to listen to Motown and Stax RnB from the 50's and 60's than what was on the 90's radio. At 12 years old, I found Billie Holiday and was turned on to jazz music. It wasn't until I took a jazz class at a vocal workshop that I discovered my voice and the freedom that jazz allows a singer. After that I started to sing with different musicians and groups doing jazz and bossanova standards. At 20, I left home to travel and first landed in Paris. There I joined a French Pop band and toured all over France as their singer. I moved on through Europe doing street performances with different musicians and artists. After spending sometime in India, I returned to California and continued to perform boss nova covers on 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica. It was in 2009, after a guy broke my heart, that I sat at the piano, and wrote my first song. From that night on, I was hooked on the musical therapy of songwriting. I spent the next two years to teach myself piano and write many more songs. In 2011, I recorded my first E.P produced and engineered by Scott Smith (Grizzly Bear, Weezer, Jose Gonzales) at The Village Recorder. The E.P. and my first video were released this spring on my label, Playtime Recordings. Today I am performing solo acoustic sets around Los Angeles and rehearsing with a band for upcoming shows this Summer.
