Tru and the Strays: Tru: A singer, dancer, and actor, she is also an accomplished musician and complex songwriter. The recent graduate of Manhattan's Professional Performing Arts School has professional experience in numerous forms of entertainment. As a singer she has sung all over New York City and the tri-state area, performing her own work as well as singing back-up for profound artists in soul, pop, and rock. She has recorded demos for celebrity artists (Ashlee Simpson, Hilary Duff, Jamie Lynn Spears) and commercial jingles for television and radio. A few years ago, she was approached by an Emmy Award winning BET producer who introduced her to distinguished coach and mentor Craig Derry (who has personally vocal coached Katy Perry, Mary J. Blige, Marc Anthony, Angie Stone, and Ashanti). Tru's ear lends itself to her work as a musician. A classically trained pianist, Tru has played in bands and as a session player while consistently accompanying herself and other singers at gigs. Playing music led to writing music and lyrics, with her first poem published in an anthology at the age of 12. She has co-written with great pop songwriters including Andy Marvel (Jessica Simpson, Diana King), Jeff Franzel (Clay Aiken, Taylor Dayne, *NSYNC, The Temptations), Dana Calitri (Elton John, Celine Dion, Chris Daughtry, Jesse McCartney) and Martin Briley (*NSYNC, Barry Manilow, Celine Dion). Although she grew up studying classical ballet, she has also danced in hip-hop music videos, toured with a modern dance company, and even worked as assistant choreographer in the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway show, Joy. In recent years, she had the privilege of traveling across the country with Mattel, Inc. making appearances as the live Barbie™ spokesperson. While performing musically throughout New York City, Tru is actively pursuing a career in film and television through her manager Ted Brunson at Cobalt Sky Entertainment and agents Victoria Kress and Pam Roth at Don Buchwald and Associates. When not working she spends her nights at open mics and live jams while learning guitar. Currently, she is playing Linda in the gospel/soul musical workshop "Soul Kitchen," rehearsing for a new sketch comedy television pilot (with writers from SNL and The Late Show with David Letterman, and putting together a new band to perform her original music around the city. On December 14th, she had the honor of singing with Grammy winner Latrice Varret at the Nokia Theater in Times Square as the opening act for the legendary Aretha Franklin.
Planet Booty: Planet Booty is a force to be reckoned with. Having started as a genredefying concept album by brothers Nathan and Dylan Germick that blends electropop, sci-fi synths, space funk and booty bass, the project has evolved into a live show of epic proportions. The 6-piece ensemble fuses electronics, drums, percussion, horns, marimba, guitars, and soulful to create a hypercharged and highly entertaining dance friendly experience. Fueled by the power of a tightly honed live band, their most recent release the “Success EP” continues their sonic adventure further into genre defying territory. Having quickly earned a reputation as one the Bay Area’s must see live acts, Planet Booty has earned regular appearances at Rickshaw Stop, Café du Nord, Bottom of the Hill, Red Devil Lounge, and the Viper Room (Hollywood). Their combination of high-caliber musicianship, audacious arrangements, and good ol’ fashioned funk is guaranteed to raise a smile and get booties bouncing.
