Honey Island Swamp Band: Great music begins with great songs, and great songs are what the Honey Island Swamp Band is all about. The band came together after Aaron Wilkinson (acoustic guitar, mandolin, vocals) and Chris Mule’ (electric guitar, vocals) were marooned in San Francisco after the levee breaches following Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, and had a chance encounter with fellow New Orleans evacuees Sam Price (bass, vocals) and Garland Paul (drums, vocals) at John Lee Hooker’s Boom Boom Room on Fillmore Street. Honey Island Swamp Band‘s music has been described as “Bayou Americana”, with timeless songs from Wilkinson & Mulé, highlighted by Mulé’s searing guitar, Wilkinson’s sure-handed mandolin, and 4-part vocal harmonies, all anchored by the powerful groove of Price & Paul’s Louisiana stomp rhythm section. The addition of Trevor Brooks on Hammond B-3 organ to the HISB family in 2010 has rounded out the band’s sound, which draws from a variety of influences in the world of roots music, including artists such as Lowell George & Little Feat, The Band, Taj Mahal, Gram Parsons, Jerry Garcia, Johnny Cash, Jimmy Reed, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, and New Orleans’ own Earl King and Dr. John. http://www.honeyislandswampband.com/
Robert Walter is an accomplished keyboardist and composer. He plays Piano, Hammond B3 and Fender Rhodes. While touring extensively in the US and Europe, he has worked as a leader and sideman with many of the giants of American jazz and funk music. As a member of the classic band the Greyboy Allstars he has built a large and devoted following. He also works as a session musician, recording and collaborating with a diverse group of artists and on many film scores. Robert grew up in San Diego, California where he studied music from the age of 7 and began performing in bands as a teenager. He helped form the the Greyboy Allstars in 1993 with Karl Denson, Elgin Park, Chris Stillwell, Zak Najor and DJ Greyboy. Influenced by soul-jazz and funk records from the 1960s and 70s, the band juxtaposed jazz improvisation and dance music. They continue to record and perform to a committed fan base. The Greyboy Allstars also served as the band for Robert’s first solo record, Spirit of ’70 which also featured saxophonist and Miles Davis sideman Gary Bartz. In the late 1990’s Robert started his own group Robert Walter’s 20th Congress to showcase his composing. The band became known for it’s live performances and toured throughout the 90s and 2000’s. They recorded two albums, Money Shot and Giving Up the Ghost. Band members included Cochemea Gastelum(Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings), Stanton Moore(Galactic), Joe Russo(Furthur, Benevento-Russo Duo), George Sluppick(Mofro, Chris Robinson Brotherhood), Mike Fratantuno(Black-eyed Peas), Chuck Prada, and Will Bernard. During this period Robert also recorded There Goes the Neighborhood with jazz-funk pioneers Harvey Mason, Chuck Rainey, Phil Upchurch and Red Holloway. Robert relocated to New Orleans in 2004 and became immersed the vibrant local music scene. He began collaborating with Johnny Vidacovich, Stanton Moore, James Singleton, George Porter Jr., and many more. While in New Orleans he recorded Super Heavy Organ and Cure All as well as albums with Stanton Moore(III, Emphasis on Parenthesis, Groove Alchemy) and Anders Osborne(American Patchwork). Robert currently lives in Los Angeles where he works on film music with composer Michael Andrews. They have done scores for Bridesmaids, Bad Teacher, Walk Hard(the Dewey Cox Story) Cyrus, Jeff Who lives at Home, She’s Out of Your League, 5 Year Engagement and the title song for the Fox comedy The New Girl(with Zooey Deschanel).
Clarence Bucaro: Over five albums literate and honey-voiced singer-songwriter Clarence Bucaro has crafted an impressive canon of uplifting Americana, garnering comparisons to Jackson Browne and Van Morrison. The Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter built his career on a robust 300-shows-per-year schedule sharing stages with such diverse and established artists as Aaron Neville, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders, North Mississippi Allstars, and Fountains of Wayne. Clarence’s upcoming fifth album, Walls Of The World, released April 3rd 2012 on 20/20 Records, is his most ambitious and diverse to date. WOTW is jointly produced by Hector Castillo (David Bowie, Björk, Lou Reed, and Rufus Wainwright) and Chocolate Genius and benefits from the complimentary approaches of Castillo’s organic ambience and Chocolate Genius’s knack for nuanced, moody electronic flourishes. Conceptually it’s a thematic piece using walls as metaphor for political and personal division. The album is inspired by the works of controversial Turkish writer Orhan Pamuk’s Snow and conflict journalist Asne Seierstad’s Angel of Grozny; Clarence’s own on-the-scene reportage from Jerusalem, Cuba, Morocco, and Russia; and his inner journey of first-time fatherhood. The Cleveland, Ohio native established himself with critically acclaimed albums like his Anders Osborne-produced debut Sweet Corn (Anders is best known for penning Tim McGraw’s 3-million selling single “Watch The Wind Blow”) and his Rounder Records sophomore album Sense Of Light. Walls Of The World is an interpersonal and personal travelogue scored by an ambient and soulful production aesthetic bittersweet enough to evoke the dissonance in the human struggle but warm enough for the music to fill you with hope.
