  • ZØYA

    ZØYA

ZØYA is an independent recording artist, singer-songwriter, musician and storyteller based in
    Columbus, OH
. The largest part of her music is about struggles that she was going through in her life, especially during her teenage years. Her songs are for those who need encouragement or a positive vibe throughout their day. Though mistreated by others in the past, ZØYA now imbues her music with the kind of soul somebody only gets by aligning an inner fire with a greater power. ZØYA believes that music heals and she wants to reach out to those folks who struggle with the same issues as she did, so that way they could open up and acknowledge their struggle, understand that they're not alone in this world, and that there is always a hope, a new beginning, and that way their wounds will quickly heal. Her latest single 'I Still Believe' is an emotional, and empowering song that highlights the importance of believing and having steadfastness in faith, and encourages everyone to 'still believe' despite the circumstance or situation in life.
    ---
Zoya was born on September 4, 1993 in Pinsk, Belarus. She immigrated to the United States with her family at age 11. Music is playing serious role in her life. She started writing her first songs and poems at age of 6. Her music passion developed even more when she recorded (self-produced) first worship music album "Shalom" at age 13 at her local church. At age 15, she recorded and self-produced second worship music album "Gratitude" in the Columbus Musicol Studio. In those two music albums, she recorded cover versions of the Russian Christian worship songs but in her own unique way. Zoya is also a songwriter and composer. She has over 40 songs written by her, including music and lyrics. Zoya is a self-producer, manager of her own performances and shows; she considers herself as a Russian-American singer-songwriter. She has toured around America with her music and singing. In the past, Zoya had multiple performances in various states and countries such as Canada and Belarus. For 4 years she sang and studied in Columbus International Children's Choir (Academy). In July of 2014, she traveled to Minsk, Belarus to work on her music and perform there at local churches. She managed to record two of her original singles ‘No Need to Worry’ and ‘God is God’ in one week at the Studio Nerv-Records. Both singles were already released in mid-August of the same year on iTunes, Spotify, Jango Radio, CD Baby and other digital music stores. In November 2014, No Need to Worry was heard by thousands in Ufa, Russia since it was played on the radio inside of the city’s luxurious coffee shops. Her second Russian power ballad single God is God took over the Russian Christian social and mass media right after its release. In addition, Zoya is also passionate and outspoken about social issues such as immigration, education, poverty and children. She has also volunteered for the non-profits such as Fight For Children Foundation, Bonner Scholars Program and City of Athens, WV and interned at the U.S. House of Representatives for the Speaker of the House. In May of 2015, she graduated from George Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Nowadays, Zoya is working on her original debut EP, and has consistent shows and performances all over the United States. According to Zoya, her main goal is to "share the good news, create music for people who are in need of encouragement, and spread the message of love, hope and self-empowerment.

  • Tara Beier

    Tara Beier

“Drawing influences from Laura Nyro and Joni Mitchell, to Neil Young and Fleetwood Mac… brilliant song composition with an original voice.”
    Indie Spoonful (US)
“One-of-a kind Canadian indie rock… definitely worth hearing.” Popmatters
“Beier’s combination of styles and sounds, ranging from simple acoustic ballads to catchy pop-like melodies prove that she can take any vibe and truly make it her own.” The Deli Magazine (New York)
“A modern flower child, evolving in her own musical world that is like no other.” Haute Punch (Montreal)
“From the percussive psychedelic folk to the minimal dark acoustic blues, you’ll suspect Zeppelin.” Folk Radio UK
On her new six-song EP, California 1970, Tara Beier firmly establishes herself as a powerful new voice within the alt-folk scene. Drawing from the full range of her influences, from traditional folk and blues to classic rock and psychedelia, Beier bridges past and future sounds while offering a lyrical perspective both personal and universal.
Based jointly in Toronto and Los Angeles, Beier produced California 1970 herself at legendary L.A. studio The Village Recorder, joined by guitarist Adam Zimmon (Iggy Pop, Shakira), drummer Tripp Beam (Moby), bassist Eliot Lorango (Sea Wolf), and keyboardist Sasha Smith (Ariana Grande, Linda Perry). Additional sessions were held at former Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum’s studio.
Not surprisingly, the songs on California 1970 reflect, on the whole, her recent time living in L.A., using the city as a conduit for some deeply personal themes. Opening track “Fool’s Paradise” sets the bar high with its taut, slow-burning message of seeking the truth, before exploding by the end into a soaring, string-led chorus. For these traits and others, the song was chosen for the EP’s first video shot at Zorthian Ranch, one of L.A.’s most cherished artist-friendly locations.
Born and raised in Vancouver, Beier is also an award-winning filmmaker. Her most recent project is Covered, which saw her taking on the role of Buffy Sainte-Marie and spending a year immersed in the life and music of the Canadian folk icon. Now with California 1970, Beier is proving that she herself is a singer/songwriter whose time has come.
