In the late ’60s Goldsmith played keyboards and sang vocals for the band The Five Americans in Dallas, Texas. The band had three number onehitsingles on Billboard, “I See The Light”, “Western Union” and “Zip Code”. In 1970 he formed the CBS recording act Sweathog with Frosty from Lee Michaels. The band wasPresident of Columbia Records. The band recorded and released 2 albums - Sweathog and Hallelujah.Sweathog toured and opened forIn 1974 the new group Creation was signed by Jerry Wexler at ATCO Records with Lenny as lead singer and keyboard playerwould later be included on Frankie Valli’s solo album, Grease….Is The Wordplusa few cuts were included on variousFrom 1984 to 1985 Lenny Goldsmith became lead singer with Tower of Power, the legendary funk band from Oakland CA. Their highest-charting songs include "You're Still a Young Man", "", "Soul With a Capital S", "Soul Vaccination", "What Is Hip?", and "Don't Change Horses (In The Middle Of A Stream)”.
From 2011 on he has been writing, recording and performing. Goldsmith initially used mostly young musicians on the first two CDs including histwo youngest sons’ band members in Dawes, Blake Mills (guitar), sax playerBilly & The Beaters, Kim Carnes, and many more. Jerry additionally mastered his latest CDs, as well as playing and programming.band, The New Old currently includes Tom Canning on keyboards (Al Jarreau’s musical director), John Woodhead on guitars (who has played with Ace, Maria Muldaur, the late Leon Russell and many more)winning filmmaker John Watkin also on guitar. Dennis Kenmore is on drums and he played with the Corey Wells Band in the mid 60s.. he left just before they became Three Dog Night. Dave Batti is on bassa full horn section led by Charley Pollard.
