  • Hot 8 Brass Band

    Hot 8 Brass Band

The members of the Hot 8 were all born and raised in New Orleans; many of them began playing together in high school. In 1995 they came together and began playing traditional New Orleans brass band music professionally.

Founded by Bennie Pete, Jerome Jones, and Harry Cook in 1995, the band has played in traditional Second Line parades hosted each Sunday by a Social Aid and Pleasure Club ever since. The Hot 8 are famous for playing all day in the sun, then hopping to a club gig and playing through the night. But even more than their boundless energy, what makes the Hot 8 special are the sounds they coax from their well-loved, well-worn horns.

It was not until after Hurricane Katrina, however, that Hot 8 became known nationwide. Featured on CNN, Nightline, in the New York Times, and most notably in Spike Lee’s Katrina documentary “When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts”, Hot 8’s work with the Finding Our Folk Tour has brought music to evacuee shelters, temporary trailer parks, and to communities throughout the US that have provided a temporary home to displaced New Orleanians.

The Hot 8 Brass Band, like all of New Orleans, has had its share of tragedy in the aftermath of Katrina. In addition to displacement caused by the storm and subsequent violence and uncertainty contained therein, drummer Dinerral Shavers was shot and killed in late 2006 while driving with his wife and child in New Orleans. In addition, two other members of the band have lost their lives due to violence on the city streets. In response to these tragic setbacks, The Hot 8 Brass Band has recommitted itself to bringing people together through their unique brand of music to celebrate, to heal and to learn. This passion for music and social outreach led to an integral role contributing to the success of the Finding Our Folk Tour.

  • The Blue Note Project

    The Blue Note Project

Formed in 2008 by guitarist Eddie Taska, The Blue Note Project has become a blend of many talents, beginning with Mike Mowen on Bass, newest member Mauro Tarakdian on drums, and Scott Niland on vocals, who joined the band in 2014.  Blending genres comes naturally to this band, and it’s evident in the music they write.  From rock-n-roll to fusion to funk, this band is always coming up with new ways to express itself.  Drummer Mauro Tarakdian comes via Brazil where he was raised on all the unique rhythms of his country.  Mike Mowen has been teaching bass and playing with a diverse group of musicians his whole life.  Eddie comes via the midwest where rock-n-roll was a religion and lead guitarists were heroes.  His crisp, melodic, solos, will leave you wanting more.  Scott Niland’s tone and range is very reminiscent to Paul Rodgers, and his gravel-ish screams might wake up the ghost of Jim Morrison.  If there was one word that best describes this band, it’s “tight.”  But they’ll tell you they prefer to be loose.  Either way you hear it, the energy in the room will be electric and the songs will deliver a punch that you’d expect from all that talent.

  • Nasi Nassiri

    Nasi Nassiri

Nasi is a singer-songwriter of Iranian descent, born and raised in Germany. Fusing sounds of neo-soul, pop, R&B, and jazz, Nasi's sound is all her own. With a strong presence in the Los Angeles and Orange County music scenes, she has performed at venues across Southern California, including The Mint, Bar Lubitsch, and has opened for artists like the Grammy-nominated Hot 8 Brass Band and Latin-Soul artist Alex Cuba.

In July 2017 Nasi wrote and performed on a track with the legendary rapper Bizzy Bone from the Grammy Award Winning rap group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. The single is set to be released by December 2017. In 2015, she also wrote and performed on the track "Endlessly" by renowned producer Excel Beats (Ne-Yo, Usher, Lady Gaga, Bone Thugs). She was additionally featured on Excel Beats' track "All Mine." Both songs were featured in promos for the Kendall + Kylie clothing line for Pac Sun by Kendall and Kylie Jenner. With a soulful voice, poetic lyrics, and stirring melodies, Nasi delivers a sound reminiscent of artists like Adele, Lana Del Rey, and Celine Dion. Her first single "Runaway" was released June 9th, 2017.
