Future People

Making music that drummer/programmer Dan Marcellus explains as sample-based with organic instrumentation on top, the band?s original samples are overlaid with live and unadulterated rock, pop and dance influences. Chris, however, hears it differently: “Future People?s sound is like a wizard on a mountain eating a f**king boneless McRib sandwich and holding a magic 8 ball that says ‘hell yes.’ ...He can get McRibs whenever he wants. He’s a wizard”, the singer and guitarist clarifies. Though Chris and Dan have been making music together and with others since middle school - Dan, a student of the Peabody Institute, and Chris with Brand New, The Mars Volta and Robyn to name a few - the addition of bassist Larry Sheffey anchors 2010 as the year that Future People came to fruition. Add to that trio a second percussionist, guitar and synth: Jordan Richardson (of Ben Harper and the Relentless7), and shit gets real. With producer credit on the hit Spank Rock single Energy, and a reciprocated co-written track on their latest self-titled EP, Future People seem to have found convenience in an unconventional approach. It?s working for Perez Hilton, who, in comparing the foursome?s track Naturally to MGMT and Empire of the Sun stated that: “Sometimes when things try and be too cool, they often come across as pretentious and fail to connect. But this is really cool and really good! [...] We LOVE it!!!”
